I'm sure a lot of people have taken up blogging as a hobby, something to do at the end of a long, rewarding day at the office, the Mall or even a luxurious vacation at a picture-perfect holiday resort. But that's definitely not the case for me and for many others in my shoes. I come from a country where unemployment stands at a whopping 80%, where millions of brilliant graduates find themselves jobless because the economy simply can't absorb any new employees, a country where business closure and company bankruptcy are the order of the day, where people smile and exude hope in the midst of unfathomable poverty.
Once upon a time I held a prestigious position in a certain organization and had the privilege of traveling the length and breadth of the country, hosting conferences and practically living my dream. And then came that fateful day, when I received a letter from the University at which I was studying for my degree, and it read, "We regret to inform you that as of the following semester, we will no longer be running the parallel program. You will therefore be transferred to the conventional class with immediate effect." The parallel program had made it possible for me to attend lectures in the evenings as I worked during the day, and its cancellation meant I had to choose between dropping out of varsity in order to keep my job, or pursuing my degree at the expense of my blossoming career. After a lot of intense counseling, consideration and prayer, I decided to put my studies first and improve my chances of building a glorious future. It wasn't an easy decision, but I'm convinced even now that it was the right one.
When I graduated 2 years later, everything had changed - the economy, the organization at which I had worked before, EVERYTHING. My heart plunged to the floor when I realized that there was no going back. For months I worked my fingers to the bone in an attempt to relaunch my career, to no avail. Though I passed all my job interviews, I received numerous emails that basically explained that the company couldn't afford any new employees. Consequently, I became desperate, anxious and there were many sleepless nights. I had nearly reached the point of losing my mind when it dawned on me that I still had something left - my creativity and lots of Wifi. So I put pen to paper and my very first blog was born.
I've hosted many life skills workshops, conducted leadership seminars and written many magazine articles and blog posts since then. I've also just finished my first book - and who better to write a motivational book than someone who knows how it feels to reach rock bottom and still keep moving forward? All that's left are a few hundred dollars for the printing. If you're wondering how you can help, I'd appreciate it if you shared the link to this blog with all your friends. Every view, like and share goes a long way in helping me fulfill my dream.
In closing, I'm here to tell you that you can never really lose everything in life. There's always something left to help you get back up again - your loved ones, your creativity, your amazing ideas. Never, ever give up. If you want something, go get it. The best in life awaits you!
